If ever you needed a goal to sum up Shearer's lethal touch as a Blackburn player, this might be it. The ball is floated into Shearer who is has his back to goal and two defenders around him. Within two touches the ball is curled past a motionless keeper.

England 2

30 Apr 1997 (90')

A very close range effort but a very spectacular one. Indirect free kick for England in injury time at Wembley. Sheringham flicks it to Shearer who unleashes a fierce shot in off the bar.

Blackburn 7

Goals galore at Ewood Park. Shearer put the icing on the cake with the 7th and an uncharacteristic finish scooping the ball over the Norwich keeper.

Newcastle 2
Portsmouth 0

4 Feb 2006 (64')

Probably the only goal to have made it onto the list mainly for its significance rather than its pure quality. Shearer's 201st Newcastle goal meant the record was his. It was his usual calm and collected finish but celebrations were worth the wait.

Bolton 4
Newcastle 3

26 Dec 2002 (79')

Tough day away at Bolton. Shearer still managed to grab a highlight with a spectacular free kick that flew into the top corner of the goal.

Newcastle 3

All was noisy on New Year's Day at St James' Park when Shearer volleyed home through a crowded penalty area with only minutes gone.

Southampton 2
Tottenham 0

17 Aug 1991 (??')

This oldie was scored when Shearer was still trying to make a name for himself. He wrestles free kick of three Spurs defenders and finishes superbly with stinging shot high and across goal.

Man Utd 5
Newcastle 3

23 Nov 2002 (52')

Pressure was on at Old Trafford as Newcastle were trying to stay in the game. From the free kick Shearer did the business whacking one in off the bar from distance and past Barthez.

Crystal Palace 3
Blackburn 3

15 Aug 1992 (66')

This was Shearer's first goal as a Rover. From well over 20 yards out he chested and blasted the ball looping it over the Palace keeper.

Newcastle 2
Wimbledon 0

21 Aug 1996 (88')

Alan's very first goal for Newcastle. Time was running out on his home debut, but a free kick slightly left of the D meant  Shearer would have a late try. He stepped up and curled the ball inch perfectly into the opposite top corner.

Blackburn 2
Southampton 0

20 Nov 1993 (77')

An acrobatic volley here. On a counter attack, a cross came in from the right and Shearer attacked the ball near post and whilst horizontal in the air, volleyed the ball in.

Blackburn 4
Queens Park Rgs 0

26 Nov 1994 (85')

Another Rovers goal at number 9, this time a long distance shot against QPR. Shearer picked up the ball well over 20 yards out and simply released an unstoppable shot in off the bar. Even the camera had a hard time keeping up.

England 4
Holland 1

18 Jun 1996 (57')

Euro 96 in all its glory. Macca played in Gazza, who passed to Sheringham, who feigned a shot and set up Shearer for him to blast the ball in the top corner with the outside of the foot... to the whole nation's delight.

England 2
Poland 1

9 Oct 1996 (37')

It was a one man show that day in the first half. Shortly after scoring the equaliser, Shearer was set up by Ferdinand, and let loose with a fierce right foot shot that flew past the Polish keeper before he could move.

Newcastle 2
Wimbledon 0

11 Apr 1999 (118')

An April afternoon in extra time of the FA Cup semi final at Old Trafford. Newcastle were 1-0 up thanks to a Shearer penalty, Maric made his way down the left, cut back and set up the number 9 who riffled a shot in off the bar and post from outside the area.

England 3
Portugal 0

22 Apr 1998 (65')

Back in the starting line-up for his country after a serious injury. In the second half, Batty broke free on the left and lobbed a ball into Shearer's path. Alan was one on one with Baia, but still decided to half volley it from over 20 yards into the top corner.

Newcastle 7
Tottenham 1

28 Dec 1996 (20')

The first of many that day. Alan broke free with the ball up in the air, lobbed it over one defender, held off another two, and still managed to beat the keeper with a neat finish.

Newcastle 2
Chelsea 1

25 Apr 2004 (48')

The second half was only three minutes old, when Viana kicked an innocent ball up the pitch to Shearer. Alan pinned Desailly back, turned and let fly a shot that floated its way past a motionless Chelsea keeper into the Gallowgate end goal.

Newcastle 3
Aston Villa  0

3 Nov 2001 (50')

From midfield, Rob Lee floated a ball across and into the penalty area over the Villa defence into the path of Shearer. A side foot volley followed, curling past Schmeichel who could only stand and watch the ball land in the opposite corner.

Newcastle 2
Everton 1

1 Dec 2002 (86')

And the best one of all was also a volley. Time was running out for Newcastle at home vs Everton, and out of the blue Alan came up with a stunning volley from over 20 yards out.
