Alan Shearer and Newcastle United
1996 - 2006

First Appearance:

Everton 2-0 Newcastle Utd, August 17th 1996 (pictured)
Shearer's first competitive game for Newcastle came at Goodison Park against Everton on the opening day of the 1996-97 season. The Magpies were defeated 2-0, the goals coming from David Unsworth and Gary Speed.

Four days later Shearer made his St James' Park home debut against Wimbledon. It was to be a much more joyous occasion with Newcastle winning 2-0, Alan himself getting on the scoresheet with a free kick at the Leazes End.

Final Appearance:

Sunderland 1-4 Newcastle, April 14th 2006
Alan famously played his last game in black and white in the memorable Tyne-Wear derby of April 2006. It was 1-0 to Sunderland at the break but a second half blitz gave the away side a comfortable win. Michael Chopra equalised within seconds of coming on. Then Shearer tucked away a penalty only a minute later to give his side the lead. Charles N'Zogbia and Albert Luque finished the Black Cats off. Alan was forced to come off through injury after a clash with Julio Arca. It would be his final competitive appearance on a football pitch.
